The SLGGA branch for the differently able is indeed a life time support system as the associations strives to improve the lives of the differently able and give them equal opportunities in a society that seems to be sightless to their existence. “All that people offer them is sympathy but that’s not but they want,” says Marlyn, “what they want is to be accepted in society and live normal lives.”

Guiding Schools on Global Warming

Rating schools on how eco-friendly they are, the Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association (SLGGA) hope to raise awareness amongst school-going children of the impact and consequences of global warming and encourage the next generation to take responsibility for the environment.

The Art of Giving

Tsunami Relief Task Force of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, now known as Disaster Management Committee, steped up soon after the monstrous waves of the tsunami ripped the coasts of Sri Lanka, to provide assistance to the multitude of victims left in its wake. Five years after, they continue conducting education support systems, child development centres and many more projects such as “Nanapiyasa”

Going Green

Girls across the world say ‘we can save our planet,’ specially now with the drastic climate change.The Sri Lanka Girl Guides focus on the environment to be in tow with the United Nation’s (UN) Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by conucting numerous environmental related projects including 3R, reflecting the concept of the three-fold environmental concept of reduce, reuse and recycle.

Being Positive

Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association (SLGGA) organised projects at the passport office to educate migrant workers and others present, on the lethal HIV/AIDS disease and how to protect themselves against it. The first of its kind, the project was well received and highly appreciated by all.  endorsed by ICAP and AFP projects such as “Nanapiyasa”.
